Aguará Guazú

Its name (in Guarani) means "big fox" Indeed, it is the largest of the South American foxes. It is also known as the "maned wolf".

Its diet is omnivorous. It consumes small rodents, amphibians, reptiles, birds, fish, fruits, and insects.

In the native Toba and Mocoví cultures, it represents a sacred animal imbued with spirituality.

It inhabits the provinces of Corrientes, Formosa, Chaco; Córdoba and Santa Fe (only in the northern parts of both), eastern Santiago del Estero, and southern Misiones.

The species is categorized as Threatened in the country. Its main risk of death is roadkill on highways and secondary roads.
