Commonly known locally as «tatú», «quirquincho», «mulita» or «piche», armadillos are mammals exclusive to America belonging to the Order Cingulata, which also groups large extinct species such as the Gliptodonts. They are characterized by presenting the body protected by a hard shell. Their food is omnivorous, although they show a preference towards insects. Currently, 14 species inhabit in Argentina.
