South American monkeys

Our Museum has representatives from two of the five families of primates native to South America. The Family Cebidae groups medium-sized species such as the Capuchin Monkey (of omnivorous diet) and the Howler Monkey (which feed on vegetables), and are characterized by prehensile tail. The species of the Family Callithricidae, on the other hand, have no prehensile tail and are small in size. They are commonly known as «night monkeys”. Their diet is omnivorous.
