They are known as “Night raptors”, term that emphasizes the two most outstanding characteristics of these birds grouped in the Order Strigiformes: they are birds that capture live prey mainly during the night. The particular structure of the wing feathers allows them to fly stealthily, which added to a great hearing ability, turns these birds into the main threat for the rodents on which they feed. Precisely for the large number of rodents they consume, they can be considered as beneficial for human activities.
