Grouped into the Order Cariamiformes, the Southern Screamers are birds of terrestrial habits, whose long legs allow them to run quickly through the savannas and chaco forests where they live. Notwithstanding, they are good flyers, overnighting and nesting in tree branches.
They feed preferably on small vertebrates (lizards, rodents), although they can eat fruits of wild plants too.
In Córdoba province are found the only two extant species, which are easily distinguishable from each other mainly by the color of their legs.
