The Swainson’s Hawk

(Buteo swainsoni)

This is one of the bird species that annually migrate long distances from its nesting areas in North America to the wintering areas in Argentina, where they arrive in October. They gather in thousands, mainly in the Pampean region, feeding on locusts, crickets, dragonflies and other arthropods.

Each individual eats more than 100 large locusts per day, therefore being a true ally of agricultural producers by eliminating organisms considered pests for crops.
